'Original work from contemporary artists for all tastes . . . '

William Sculthorpe

All of my work is strongly concerned with observation and formal qualities. I am interested in the interaction of light with space, volume, surfaces and colour, also with focus, how appearances can be sometimes more vivid when out of focus, or sometimes in sharp focus, or both combined selectively. Some of my work is done entirely from life and some partly or entirely from sketches and memory.

My paintings of musicians are usually done from life, sometimes with additions from one painting to another to complete the compositions. They usually practice in the evening, the lighting coming from several lights on the ceiling.
